Scott served as an assistant for one year and head for eight years while at the University of North Carolina. During his tenure as a Tar Heel, he coached 13 All-Americans as well as 2X national champion Austin O'Connor. In 2023 the Tar Heels had their highest team finish at the NCAA Championships since 1995.
In Oklahoma State's official press release, Scott said the following:
"Coming back to Oklahoma State and having the opportunity to serve Coach Smith and this program means the world to me," Scott said. "I'll be forever grateful to North Carolina for believing in me at such an early stage of my career but I'm a Cowboy at heart and when the opportunity to return came up, I had to take it." - Coleman Scott
This announcement comes after longtime Oklahoma State assistant Zack Esposito announced he would be taking a role at USA Wrestling as the National Freestyle Development and Resident Coach. UNC is currently conducting a nationwide search for the next Tar Heel head coach.
