8th Grade Phenom Fernandez Takes On Ceshker At Who's Number One
Two rising stars at 127 lbs will wrestle at Who's Number One in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
U15 World Teamer Taina Fernandez and Fargo runner-up Carley Ceshker will face off in Ceshker's home state of Wisconsin with the number one national ranking on the line.
Fernandez and Ceshker are the top two ranked wrestlers with high school eligibility remaining at 127 lbs, and they'll vie for the number one ranking in Kenosha, Wisconsin at this year's edition of Who's Number One.
Maryland native Taina Fernandez is only now entering her freshman year of high school but has already racked up an impressive list of credentials. She made the U15 Pan-Am team and later won gold at the Pan-AM Championships in Columbia. A year later in 2023 Fernandez again won U15 Nationals.
Ceshker has a trophy case overflowing with accoladesherself. She was upset in Fargo, falling to Lynn Horn in the 16U finals in a 3-3 nailbiter. She was also runner-up at the U17 World Team Trials, dropping matches to Everest Lydecker, who is ranked #1 at 122.
Fernandez and Ceshker have met before, with Fernandez getting the better of Ceshker in the finals of the 2022 123 lb Super 32 bracket.
This time, however, Ceshker will have the home state advantage, as she is one of several native Wisconsinites that will be competing at this year's event.
