Connor McGonagle Announces Transfer To Virginia Tech
2X national qualifier Connor McGonagle will spend his final year of eligibility at Virginia Tech.
Two-time national qualifier Connor McGonagle has announced he will be spending his final year of eligibility at Virginia Tech.
McGonagle spent the first five years of his college career at Lehigh. After redshirting his first year, McGonagle was able to qualify for the national tournament in his first two years as a starter. His junior year was his best year as he was ranked #5 going into the EIWA Championships with wins over Kai Orine, Micky Phillippi, and others, but suffered an injury that forced him out of both the conference and national tournaments.
McGonagle was forced out of the starting lineup this season with freshman phenom Ryan Crookham defeating him for the spot. Crookham finished in 3rd place at NCAAs and only defeated McGonagle 6-3 in sudden victory.
Despite not starting this season, McGonagle competed in the 2023 NWCA All-Start Classic and defeated Virginia Tech 2X All-American Sam Latona. Latona still has a year of eligibility remaining if he chooses to use it.
