Helen Maroulis Makes 3rd Straight Olympic Wrestling Team
Helen Maroulis became the first American woman to make three Olympic Teams with straight wins over World champion Jacarra Winchester.
Helen Maroulis can't stop making history.
In 2016, she became the first American to win an Olympic gold medal in women's freestyle wrestling.
In 2021, she won bronze at the Olympics to become the first American woman to win multiple wrestling medals.
In 2024, she became the first American to make three women's freestyle Olympic teams.
Maroulis earned a spot in the best-of-three finals thanks to her bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships. Her opponent at the Olympic Trials was 2019 World champion Jacarra Winchester. She won a silver medal at 55 kg last year, earning her a spot in the challenge tournament semifinals.
Winchester defeated Abby Nette, 11-0, and Alex Hedrick, 4-2, for the right to face Maroulis.
The Rockville, Maryland, native was in top form, notching a fall in 2:41 in the first match and a 6-0 shutout in the second. Maroulis could become the first American woman to win three Olympic wrestling medals when she competes in Paris this summer.
