USA v. Russia Duals

Iowa and Oklahoma State, Ohio State and Michigan.  Those are good rivalries.  However, is there a better rivalry around than USA vs. Russia?  The two superpowers are set to tangle this Saturday at 3:00 PM at Clifton Park, NY.  The Russians will then travel a few hours down the road to Cornell for a dual against a second team of Americans at 1:00 PM on Sunday.

The Russians are sending a talented collection of wrestlers to take on a combination of seasoned veterans and young stars from the United States.

Meet the Russian Squad

55 KG Omak Syuryun-Omak was 2nd in the NYAC earlier this month.  He is very tough defensively as well as a really solid finisher.  He looks to expose at all times and has great fakes for set ups.  I like the match up for both our guys, though Syuryun did just outplace Perrelli at NYAC.  USA sends out Olympian Sam Hazewinkel Saturday and NCAA All American Frank Perrelli.

60 KG Aleksandr Bogomoev-Aleksandr was 1st in the NYAC and was very impressive.  Has a very methodical style where he likes to let the match come to him.  Very gifted defensively and has amazing reshots.  He beat BJ Futrell as well as Brandon Precin at NYAC.  He also placed 2nd at the crazy tough Yarygian.  Nick Simmons, a former World Team member, will be a very interesting match up for him.  NCAA All American and Freestyle up and comer Jimmy Kennedy will really have to pick his spots against him, but has a solid chance at the win.

66 KG Alibeggadzhi Emeev-He was 2nd at NYAC and 3rd in the European Championships.  He's got a great sweep but can get extended at times.  He'll take on high school phenom and Cadet World Champion Aaron Pico and US Open Champion Kellen Russell.

74 KG Boris Makoev-Boris took 2nd in NYAC where he fell to Nick Marable.  He will take on Moza Fay, an All American for UNI on Saturday.  Then on Sunday he takes on hometown hero, 4 time NCAA Champ, and World Team Trials runner up Kyle Dake.  Dake should be a significant favorite in this spot.  Who's picking against Dake here?

84 KG Vladislav Gabareev-Another NYAC runner up will take on World Team member Keith Gavin on Saturday and NCAA finalist Clayton Foster on Sunday.  Raymond Jordan bested Vlad at NYAC in dominating fashion.  I think both our guys have a great shot here.

96 KG Georgii Gogaev- Gogaev was 1st at the Cadet World Champs 2012 and 5th at Junior  worlds last year. He brings good upper body skills and nice arm drags.  He's very solid with his gut wrench.  He teched Zabriske at NYAC but lost to Simaz in a shoot out where he seemed worn out by Cam's pace (which is what Cam does to most).  Gogaev will get a shot at revenge on Sunday where he'll face Simaz again.  On Saturday he will face Dustin Kilgore in what should be an absolute brawl!

120 KG Aleksandr Kusraev-The big guy was 3rd at NYAC and won European Juniors. Had an impressive win over Jarod Trice where he fired a quick shot, took him down, and stuck him.  It was nice.  He will take on World Team Trials runner up Tyrell Fortune on Saturday.  On Sunday he will face Lehighs NCAA champion Zach Rey.
