Grajales beats Oliver?! Ramos losses three matches?! Only one Pennsylvania placer?!

Coming from the top half of the bracket emerged the champion, Eric Grajales.  The junior from Florida powerhouse team, Brandon, had a great performance to take home the belt. The future Michigan All-American had his first big test of the tournament against Jeremy Sandoval of Texas. 

Grajales beat Sandoval, a 3-time Texas State Champion, 5-2 to advance into the semifinals against future Iowa Hawkeye standout, Tony Ramos, who he majored 8-0. That dominant victory moved him into the finals against Pennsylvania’s 3-time state champion Jordan Oliver. In this match, Oliver got his first taste of a controversial call.  In an action-packed match that was decided by a point, Grajales took home his first Super 32 belt with a 1-0 questionable finish.

Future Okie State Cowboy and NCAA National Champion, Oliver, also had a great run.  His road to the finals where he recorded three falls, was pretty dominant.  His quarterfinal match was his closest win of the tournament where he beat multiple time Virginia state champion, Andrew Williams, 5-2.

That match propelled him into the semi-finals where he faced eventual CMU Chippewa Scotti Sentes. Oliver controlled this match and pulled out a 7-2 win to go into the finals against Grajales.

After Sentes dropped his match to Oliver, he fell into the wrestlebacks against Jeremy Sandoval. Sentes squeaked out a 2-1 win to advance to the third place final.  In this match he was pitted against Texas state champ and future Virginia Tech NCAA qualifier, Erik Spjut.  Sentes would take this match 3-0 and leave Greensboro with a third place medal.

Erik Spjut wrestled Sentes twice that day. The first time coming in the championship bracket where he lost 2-1 to drop him into the wrestlebacks. He was immediately tested by a 3-time Ohio state place-winner, Anthony Salupo. Spjut won this wrestleback 4-1 and then wrestled Tony Ramos in the consolation semi-finals. In a match where only one-point was needed to decide a victor, eventual NCAA champion Ramos, fell to Spjut 1-0.

After Sandoval and Ramos both dropped their consolation semi-final bouts, they were both put in the match for 5^th place.  In this match Texas standout Sandoval takes home the win and the fifth place medal with a 4-2 decision over Ramos.

Rounding out the placements at the 2007 Super 32 125-pound bracket were Trevor Dearden and Andrew Williams.  Dearden, a three time New England champion in high school, lost to Ramos 5-3 in overtime in the championship bracket to be dropped into the wrestlebacks. He won his first bout but then dropped a 7-4 decision to Sandoval, putting him in the match for 7^th. 

Williams came down to the wrestlebacks after Oliver defeated him by a score of 5-1.  In his first match of the wrestlebacks he knocked of 2-time New York state champion Paul Liguori 3-2.  Liguori had just come off a big win by taking out future Clarion NCAA national qualifier Tyler Bedelyon 2-0.  Williams then dropped a match to Erik Spjut and then dropped his last match of the tournament to 7^th place finisher Dearden.

Seventh place: Trevor Dearden, (Salem – NH) DEC Andrew Williams, (Tabb – VA) 6-5.
