Day I Notes:

Day I of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational had so much action in every weight class. Some of the nation's best wrestlers faced off with a few receiving some very unexpected fates. Tons of shake-ups have taken place already with some of the best match up still on the horizon.

125
Day I Highlight - Dylan Peters (UNI) had scares in each of his first two matches before running into Nathan Tomasello (OSU) where he had another scare early in the bout before pinning Tomasello in 4:36 to earn himself a meeting with Joey Dance in the semifinals.

Semi's
125: #2 - Nahshon Garrett (Cornell) vs. #8 - Josh Martinez (Air Force)
125: #6 - Dylan Peters (UNI) vs #4 - Joey Dance (VT)

Semi Notes: Dance chinned back Dylan Peters and got the fall early.

133
Day I Highlight - Daniel DeShazer has had an impressive route to today's semis. The 2x division 2 All-American claimed an overtime victory over #6-ranked returning CKLV champion Johnni DiJulius in the quarterfinals.

Semi's
133: #2 - Chris Dardanes (Minn) vs. #13 - George DiCamillo (Virginia)
133: #9 Rossi Bruno (Mich) vs. Daniel DeShazer (Neb-Kern)

Semi Notes: Dardanes squeeked by DiCam when DiCamillo allowed the escape late.

141
Day I Highlight - Redshirt Freshman Anthony Ashnault, who is currently the No. 14-ranked wrestler in the country, passed his first CKLV test with a 9-7 win over #7 Joe Spisak of Virginia and will now meet 3x national champion Logan Stieber in the finals.

Semi's
141: #1 - Logan Stieber (OSU) vs. #14 - Anthony Ashnault (Rutgers)
141: #4 - Nick Dardanes (Minn) vs. #3 - Devin Carter (VT)

Semi Notes: Stieber's top skills were on full display in the much anticipated match against Ashnault. Carter was in control the whole time vs. Dardanes.

149
Day I Highlight - Michigan's Alec Pantaleo made his way to the semis with an impressive 10-3 victory over #10 Sal Mastriani of Virginia Tech, who came in as the second seed, in the second round.

Semi's
149: #6 - Chris Villalonga (Cornell) vs. #18 - Gabe Moreno (ISU)
149: #19 - Cody Ruggirello (Hofstra) vs. Alec Pantaleo (Mich)

Semi Notes: Villalonga stopped a Moreno granby for a big play. Pantaleo won a back-and-forth match against Ruggirello.

157
Day I Highlight - Russell Parsons has had some very close matches on day 1, but had managed to come out unscathed and will now take on top-ranked and top-seeded Dylan Ness.

Semi's
157: #1 - Dylan Ness (Minn) vs. Russell Parsons (Army)
157: #8 - Anthony Perrotti (Rutgers) vs. #2 - James Green (Neb)

Semi Notes: Ness pulled a cradle back inbounds and got the fall over Parsons. Green had a workmanlike performance against All American Anthony Perotti.

165
Day I Highlight - Sulzer has looked fantastic so far. He has cruised into the semis with his closest match was a 14-3 major decision over Austin Wilson of Nebraska.

Semi's
165: #2 - Nick Sulzer (Virginia) vs. #13 - Cooper Moore (NIU)
165: #9 - Taylor Walsh (Indiana) vs. #3 - Michael Moreno (ISU)

Semi Notes: Walsh kept up his pinning ways when he slapped a headlock on Moreno.

174
Day I Highlight - Logan Storley was tested by Michigan's Davonte Mahomes who took him into overtime. Kokesh hasn't had much of a problem so far. He is doing what was expected.

Semi's
174: #1 - Logan Storley (Minn) vs. #7 - Blaise Butler (Virginia)
174: #6 - Tanner Weatherman (ISU) vs. #2 - Robert Kokesh (Neb)

Semi Notes: Butler and Storley was a wild one. Butler's gas tank was a huge factor late, as he scored takedowns with :30 to go and again in OT.

184
Day I Highlight - Dean also had a close call against Minnesota's Brett Pfarr who came close to defeating the top-ranked sophomore.

Semi's
184: #1 - Gabe Dean (Cornell) vs. #10 - Taylor Meeks (Oreg. State)
184: #9 - Blake Stauffer (Ariz. State) vs. #13 - Hayden Zillmer (NDSU)

Semi Notes: Dean became the second #1 to go down this round. Although he had the only takedown of the match, Meeks had riding time and a locked hands point.

197
Day I Highlight - Freshman Kyle Snyder will have his first true test of the season in the semis against Gadson. Schiller has surely bounced back from the knee injury earlier this season and has been putting on a show.

Semi's
197: #1 - Scott Schiller (Minn) vs. Jace Bennett (Cornell)
197: #3 - Kyven Gadson (ISU) vs. #7 - Kyle Snyder (OSU)

Semi Notes: Gadson had the only takedown in a highly entertaining bout with Kyle Snyder.

285
Day I Highlight - Adam Coon has been a serious mission with all three wins coming by fall. Gwiazdowski has also looked incredible with NIU's Blaize Cabell being the only guy able to slow him down en route to today's semis.

Semi's
285: #2 - Nick Gwiazdowski (NC State) vs. #15 - Joe Stolfi (Bucknell)
285: #12 - Ty Walz (VT) vs. #4 - Adam Coon (Mich)

Semi Notes: Walz had two nice takedowns, including one on a Scramble of the Week contender, to knock off Adam Coon.
