The wait is over! The most anticipated individual match of the year is going down this Sunday! Ohio State brings their 3rd ranked squad into the wrestling-crazed town of Edinboro in the NWCA Duals Mat Mayhem. Win, you move on. Lose, your teams quest for a National Duals title is done.
The crown-jewel of this dual will go down at 141 pounds! We were supposed to see Logan Stieber v. Mitchell Port at the All Star, but if Logan had to pull out due to health concerns. This time around both guys are ready to go. Both teams will look to their stars to deliver in what looks to be a highly competitive match between two excellent teams. I talked about the match up in an episode of Preachin before the All Star (The Dardanes angle rings all the more true now).
What I said then is still applicable now. Here's my analysis of the match of the year!
Consider this as well: Stieber was off to a blistering pace up until 2 weeks ago having bonused every single opponent he's faced. All of em. Then a 4-0 win over unranked Nick Lawrence, he sits out against Ashnault then hangs on for dear life against Nick Dardanes. If you believe in momentum, things are looking up for Mitchell Port who has been rock steady all year. Things are NOT currently trending Logan's way. Deck stacked against the history making Buckeye? This is the guy on a quest for 4. Can Port stop history? We can find out Sunday.
It also bears mentioning that the scene at Edinboro will be pandemonium. We all saw the Edinboro v. Iowa dual where the place was so packed the Fire Marshall probably needed to be involved! The Edinboro faithful LOVE wrestling and especially their Fighting Scots. The environment will be insane and rocking for Port and company.
Oh yeah, there's 9 MORE SWEET MATCHES!
Personally, I'm excited to see the 125 match. I've made it well-known Nathan Tomasello is a guy I love to watch. His relentless fight and pursuit of points as a Freshman have landed him in the top 10. He'll have a formidable foe in Kory Mines. Mines has been up and down for sure. However, let's not forget he's got 2 (count em) 2 WINS over Joey Dance. Nathan Tomasello cannot boast the same.
Edinboro's bruising behemoth at 184, Vic Avery will be tested by the surging Kenny Courts! Courts is coming off of a win over Brett Pfarr who handled him at CKLV. This should be a great match with a tremendous style clash. Avery's hips v. Kennys attacks.
Don't forget the other stars that will be coming your way in this dual: Bo Jordan, Josh Demas and Kyle Snyder all will be bringing the necessary heat you require in these chilly Winter months! So we've got the most anticipated match of the year, a racuous atmosphere and some of the biggest stars of the sport toeing the line Sunday at 1 PM ET.
