After several months of testing at the international level, United World Wrestling has announced several rule changes for Greco-Roman wrestling. All rule changes are effective immediately. UWW announced the changes via Twitter.

The most prominent of those changes being increased penalties for illegal moves. Leg fouls, head butts, or refusing the correct par-terre will now result in a caution and two points for the opponent. Previously, only a caution was awarded to the opponent. The same penalty can apply to wrestlers who do not open up on bottom.

The push out rule was also clarified. Offensive wrestlers who step out of bounds while executing an attack will not be penalized, but the defensive wrestler will. Wrestlers who "push" their opponent out will no longer receive a point.

All gut wrenches are now worth two points. Under previous rules gut wrenches were only awarded one point.

The fan favorite five-point throw has also been reinstated.
