Joey McKenna Misses Weight At Junior Worlds
Team USA is down a Junior World Silver medalist as Joey McKenna was unable to make weight and will not be competing in tomorrow's competition at 60kg.
McKenna placed 2nd in Junior Worlds last year at 60kg. This year, McKenna was granted a special wrestle off after Brock Zacherl won the Junior World Trials in June. McKenna missed 61kg for the Senior World Team trials but was able to compete in the 65kg weight class.
McKenna was granted a special wrestle off against Zacherl but McKenna did not have to make 60kg as Zacherl requested a weight allowance. McKenna won the wrestle off 2 matches to none.
Spencer Lee, Mark Hall and Anthony Cassar take the mat tomorrow for Team USA.
**UPDATE**
According to Coach Brandon Slay Joey weighed 60.0 on the check scale. When he stepped on the official scale he weighed 60.1. UWW officials would not let Joey or any other athletes double check their weight on the official scale.
