Journeymen Fall Classic Feature Bout: Hidlay vs. Manville
Some of the best talent in the nation will come together on Sunday, October 4th, 2015 at the Journeymen Fall Classic. The main event will pair the most highly credentialed guys in each weight class together in round robin brackets. Prior to the main event the Journeymen Classic will feature the Middle School, Women’s Division, and Over-Flo Challenge on Saturday, October 3rd.

We are breaking down two feature bouts that are expected to take place in the main event live on FloWrestling. The first feature bout that is anticipated is #1-Hayden Hidlay taking on #2-Mason Manville.

#1 Hayden Hidlay, Mifflin County High School:
'15 Fargo Junior National Champion Greco-Roman
'15 Fargo Junior Nationals 3rd Freestyle
'15 PIAA AAA 3rd Place
'15 FloNationals Champion
'14 PIAA AAA 6th Place
'13 Fargo Cadet Nationals 2nd Freestyle
'13 Fargo Cadet Nationals 2nd Greco-Roman

#2 Mason Manville, Wyoming Seminary:
'15 FloNationals 3rd
'15 Fargo Junior National 2nd Greco-Roman
'15 Fargo Junior Nationals 7th Freestyle
'14 Fila Cadet World Champion Freestyle
'14 National Prep Champion
'14 Fila Cadet National Champion Freestyle
'14 Fila Cadet National Champion Greco-Roman

Hidlay and Manville squared off twice in Fargo. Hidlay won both the Greco-Roman and freestyle matches. The Greco-Roman affair has far less translation into folkstyle than the freestyle match-up, but some positioning that you saw in Greco-Roman will come into play.
Hidlay used a left-handed underhook to control the upper-body ties. Manville pinched the underhook off and Hidlay was able to strike with a left-handed headlock. The four-point throw proved to be the difference in the match as he held on to win 6-3.

Hidlay dominated the freestyle bout winning 9-0. The same left-handed underhook controlled the match for Hidlay. He was able to throw the hook by to get to Manville’s right leg. He converted this to a takedown midway through the bout. Hidlay’s pristine positioning also paid dividends when he scored an easy go behind takedown, as Manville took an ill advised shot. Look for many of the same techniques from Hidlay when the two square off in folkstyle.

Mason Manville needs to make adjustments to take the edge away from Hidlay. Hidlay has had the upperhand in the rivalry to this point due to two technical aspects. Hidlay’s left leg lead has caused problems along with the underhook positioning. Manville likes to attack the opponent’s right leg. Hidlay’s stance keeps the right leg away from Manville and stimies his attack. The stance match-up also allows Hidlay to freely attack Manville’s lead leg with his sweep and reshot single. These attacks allow Hidlay to keep his trail leg back and not expose himself to Manville’s reshots. This will be an exciting chess match to watch unfold over the next few weeks, as this will be a preview to Who’s Number One.
