Top 12 Eliminated Wrestlers From Day 1 At NCAA's
It's one thing for many of these guys to have taken losses in day 1.  For them to have been completely eliminated is borderline stunning for some of these.  For some you can blame injury in part.  However, even injured these are still some stunning eliminations.

12) #10 Todd Preston, Harvard

Preston lost a tight one early to Logan Everett of Army before losing to Pongracz of UTC 5-3.  Preston was an EIWA finalist two weeks ago.

11) #15 Dan Neff, Lock Haven

Returning All American Dan Neff brought a 26-9 record (with very few of those losses at 149) into NCAA’s.  He was pinned by unseeded Lopez on the top side before falling to Nick Barber of EMU to go 0-2.

10) #16 Matt McCutcheon, Penn State

Injuries likely played a large role in McCutcheon’s elimination. That said falling to Tom Sleigh in round 1 surprised me.  In round 2 catching an unseeded AA in Jack Dechow is not good luck for the Nittany Lion.

9) Kenny Courts, Ohio State

Courts battled early against #6 Stauffer but fell to Scheffel in the wrestle backs to get eliminated.  Courts was an AA a year ago placing 5th while unseeded.  No such magic this year for the Buckeye.

8) #9 Reuben Franklin, CSU Bakersfield

Franklin fell to an unseeded Shawn Scott of NIU first round then another unseeded wrestler in Phil Sprenkle from Lock Haven.  Franklin had been a fixture of the top 10 all year long for CSU Bakersfield.

7) #11 Sam Stoll, Iowa

Like McCutcheon, injuries played a large role as Iowa’s big man fell to Boyce Cornell of Gardner-Webb before forfeiting his wrestle back match to Denzel Dejournette of App State.

6) #8 Evan Henderson, UNC

Losing to unseeded All-American Clagon in a tight one, we all can understand.  But seeing him get completely dismantled by Clayton Ream stunned me.  What a way for a career to end.

5) #6 Eddie Klimara, Oklahoma State

Another career comes to an end with Eddie Klimara dropping both matches. Klimara had a very tough loss to Youtsey who he was beating soundly.  In the wrestle-backs he caught a rough match up against a seeded Ronnie Bresser of Oregon State.

4) #5 Matt Manley, Missouri

Another elimination likely due to injury.  Manley was dismantled by unseeded Big 10 Finalist Jimmy Gulibon before falling to App State’s Mike Longo to finish 0-2.

3) #4 Ethan Ramos, UNC

Ramos lost a shoot-out with Bernstein, then lost a stunner to Alex Meyer of Iowa.  Meyer was counted out by many, but continues to battle through the backside.

2) #3 Vic Avery, Edinboro

Mind melter for me.  I had both the top two of this list in the finals.  They both went 0-2.  Avery fell to unranked Ariola and unranked Griego.

1) #2 Brian Realbuto, Cornell

Realbuto looked relatively healthy against Weatherspoon until late in that match.  Against Mappes it was a different story.  Realbuto loses after having a late takedown waved off as time expires.  Tough way to go out for the 2-time All American.
