As expected, the studs are out and putting in the work as we go into tomorrow's quarterfinals. Take a look at the results and full brackets with matches synced here.
But let's take a look at some of the guys that showed up ready to go.
Carson Manville: The 7th grader is turning heads. He gutted out an 8-5 win to start then completely dismantled fellow middle school competitor Patrick Noonan by technical fall. He will now take on California's Brandon Betancourt.
Paul Konrath: The returning champ is back and h's looking good as he's collected a fall and a pair of decisions to make it back to the quarterfinals. Konrath was the 106-pound champ a year ago and has filled into his new 120-pound weight class nicely as him and 3x California State champ Justin Mejia continue their collision course for one another.
Verkleeren The Way: Jarod is on another level. He's putting on a dominant showing and leaving no opponent unturned. Check out his strong-armed win over Edmond Ruth here.
Anthony Mantanona: Mantanona is on a mission this weekend. So far he hasn't had a match go past the first period. His pins came in 32-seconds and 1:09 to put him in the quarterfinals against Stanley Smeltzer of Smithfield.
Taylor LaMont: The 4-time Utah state champ isn't wasting any time. He's not wasting any time on the mat and he's not waiting until the finals to sport the compression shirt and fight shorts combo either. LaMont cruised into tomorrow's quarterfinals with an 11-3 major and two falls.
Kanen Storr and Sammy Sasso On Pace For Rematch: These guys wrestled at the Journeymen Classic before the season and Storr came out on top. Since then Storr has collected his third Michigan State title as Sasso was 3rd at the state tournament with his only loss coming to Luke Pletcher in a close one. Now they're tearing up the FloNats field in impressive fashion. Sassy, the top seed, is putting together a pin parade in the top half as Storr tech. falls everyone in the bottom. If all holds true we will be watching Sasso and Storr shaking hands on the big stage.
Here is Sasso's second pin.
And Storr got rolling with a perfect 15-0 tech fall.
There were plenty of guys that were putting on a show on day 1. As we go into the quarters there are a few match-ups that we are on the look out for. We already spoke about Manville meeting Brandon Betancourt above, but another lightweight match coming in the morning will be Josh Saunders vs. Ian Timmins. Saunders is another middle schooler stepping up in the high school division. He did the same thing last year and held his own despite coming away empty handed. Timings is the top seed who came all the way from Nevada so you know he's on a serious belt hunt.
At 152, Dale Tiongson, a National Prep runner-up, will take on Travis Stefanik. Stefanik made waves at the end of the season with a 3rd place finish at the Class AAA state tournament. Initially, it was his pair of wins over Jimmy Saylor that earned him his first national ranking.
