Greatest Cliff Keen Las Vegas Upsets Of All-Time
FloWrestling looks back on some of the best upsets at the CKLV
We are just one day away from the 2016 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite, which means seeding arguments, crazy matches and, perhaps best of all, upsets. In that vein, we already released some of the best matches over the past 10 years, and today we wanted to refresh your memory on some of the wildest upsets.
If you want to see insane bouts like the Hunter Stieber win over Kellen Russell shown above, make sure you are tuning in this Friday, December 2nd. Wrestling starts at 9 a.m. pacific time, and you can watch every minute of CKLV action LIVE on FloWrestling.
Pre-Seeds | Lightweight Preview | Middleweight Preview |
We start off with one of the original google losses. Jimmy Kennedy was the 2 seed at 141 pounds in a year in which he would finish fourth at the NCAA championships. That made no difference to Division II wrestler Raymond Dunning from Adams State.
This upset ages like a fine wine as Gabe Dean continues to separate himself from this era of 184 pounders. Taylor Meeks started the worst day of Dean's college wrestling career.
In 2013, we saw peak Johnni DiJulius in Vegas. His CKLV title run included wins over All Americans Rossi Bruno and Joe Colon, but his pièce de résistance was a first period decking of Cody Brewer in the finals.
Ryan Mango was the 2 seed the year he lost to Zach Zehner of Wyoming in the second round.
At the time, we didn't know this would be a future NCAA final. All we knew is that a highly touted true freshman proved himself to be a blue chipper over an All American who would go on to win his first national title that year.
