Below is a short review of the seeds and how the brackets may play out. Streaming begins at 9am mountain time and can be watched here.

59kg

The big news out of this weight is that Olympian Jesse Thielke (NYAC) is making his return to the mat. He is the top seed, and could potentially face another NYAC wrestler in the finals in Sammy Jones, who is the two-seed after a third place finish in December at Senior Nationals.

Jones split matches with three seed Taylor LaMont (Champions WC) in December in Vegas. LaMont won 3-2 in the quarterfinals, and then Jones returned the favor 4-2 in the third place bout. A fun potential quarterfinal could feature two junior world team members facing off in LaMont and Dalton Roberts.

66kg

Alejandro Sancho (NYAC) received the top seed and is coming back-to-back runner-up finishes at USA Wrestling events. Sancho went three matches with Chris Gonzalez at the 71kg non-Olympic weight world team trials, and then lost a controversial 66kg final to Ellis Coleman in Vegas.

The next seed at 66kg is Tsuchika Shimoyamada, who was Japan's representative at the 2016 Asian Championships. Behind him is Jessy Williams, who was fourth at both the Bill Farrell and Senior Nationals.

71kg

Along with Thielke, another Olympic Trials champ is seeing his first action since April in Ravaughn Perkins (NYAC). This weight appears to be his new home and where he will be working to make world teams for then next few years.

Shogo Takahashi of Japan got the two seed. Anthonie Linares is your three seed after getting silver at Senior Nationals. Perkins is the overwhelming favorite, even though he is up a weight and returning from a spinal fracture.

75kg

It appears we will once again get a final between top-seed Kamal Bey (Sunksit Kids) and second seed Jesse Porter (NYAC). These two had an excellent three match set for the Junior world team spot, and then Bey put on a show in Vegas to prove himself as the top guy at 75kg right now.

80kg

Cheney Haight has had an interesting few months. He fell short of his goal of making the non-Olympic world team, failing to place in November. Haight then went 2-3 in Budapest at the Greco Clubs Cup, only to turn around and win Senior Nationals in Vegas.

Haight is a seasoned veteran, but Geordan Speiller presents a formidable foe in what could be the most highly anticipated final of the day. Speiller will be one of the best athletes in the gym, but a long layoff after an injury could keep Haight on his hot streak.

85kg

This weight had the most interesting seeding. Olympian Ben Provisor was third at Senior Nationals, losing to Khymba Johnson in the semis. Johnson would go on to lose to Kevin Radford in the finals.

But Provisor is only seeded behind Radford, with Kanta Shiokawa of Japan as the three seed. That means Radford is on the opposite side of the bracket as both Johnson and Radford, leaving a likely Vegas finals rematch to happen in the semis.

98kg

Our light heavyweight division seeding also looks intriguing on paper. It was at this tournament last year where G'Angelo Hancock made his first finals and the upward trajectory of his career really began. But he was teched in those finals by Kevin Mejia Castillo of Honduras.

Hancock is the top seed, his finals opponent from both Vegas and New York Hayden Zillmer got the two, and Mejia Castillo is seeded third. Zillmer just got home from Finland, where he was silver at the Herman Kare.

130kg

The heaviest weight has a small bracket. Malcolm Allen is top seed, he had a pretty crazy run at Senior Nationals, including a fun match against Toby Erickson. This weight is evenly distributed between American and international wrestlers.
