Live This Week On Flo - March 3/4: EIWA Championships | March 4/5: PJW Junior High Championships | March 4/5: Big 12 Championships

The 2017 Big 12 wrestling championships start on Saturday morning at 11am central time in Tulsa. The first day will run through the semifinals on the championship side, and the consi quarters on the backside. Knowing that, let's go over six matches to look forward to on the first day.

125 - Nick Piccininni (Oklahoma State) vs Drew Templeman (Wyoming)

It is important to remember that seeds only apply to this current season's results. If not, Templeman would be the 2 seed due to his finals win over Piccininni at last season's Reno Tournament of Champions, which you can watch below. Templeman won the takedown battle, got riding time and turned the Cowboy freshman. The 12th-ranked Templeman has spent a good part of his career up at 133 and wrestled at last year's national tournament, so it is not out of the question that the fifth year senior could knock off No. 10 Piccininni in the semis.

133 - Seth Gross (South Dakota St) vs Cam Sykora (North Dakota St)

While not as much in question as the match above, it is fun for the unknown and history. Sykora originally verballed to NDSU, switched and signed with the Jackrabbits, then left the team to transfer to his original destination in North Dakota. Gross is now the face of the program, top seed heading into Big 12s and ranked fifth in the country. This one didn't happen at the dual, adding even more intrigue to the rivalry between the two schools heading into this potential semi.

149 - Alex Kocer (South Dakota St) vs Davion Jeffries (Oklahoma)

These two have had three awesome battles in their careers already. Kocer won this season's crazy match in the dual (see below), while Jeffries won in last season's dual. This would be a rematch of last year's Big 12 semis, won by Jeffries with a late pin. In Lou Rosselli's first year with the Sooners, he is slated to get seven NCAA qualifiers and factors in big to the Big 12's resurgence as a wrestling conference.

165 - Luke Zilverberg (South Dakota St) vs Yoanse Mejias (Oklahoma)

Based on the pre-seeds, one would think Zilverberg as the 4 beat Mejias, the fifth seed. Zilverberg will need to open up more in the second match, while Mejias should be upset at getting seeded below a guy he beat heading into this quarterfinal. Both of these guys are seeded to qualify, with Zilverberg entering ranked No. 14 in the country

174 - David Kocer (South Dakota St) vs Kimball Bastian (Utah Valley)

Similar to the matchup above, this potential semifinal was won by the lower seeded wrestler. Bastian, a former cadet Greco world team member, won the pitcher's dual in Brookings on a takedown in overtime. 

197 - Nate Rotert (South Dakota St) vs Preston Weigel (Oklahoma St)

Weigel is Oklahoma State's lowest seeded wrestler at three. They are slated to qualify all 10 weights based on the pre-seeds, but this possible semi would be a rematch of last year's Big 12 finals. Weigel won that one, but Rotert took the rematch in Stillwater earlier this year. Weigel has lost three of his last five matches and has missed a few duals over the past few weeks. Meanwhile, Rotert had to injury default out against top seed Jake Smith and lost to true freshman Christian Brunner at home. Neither enter the rubber match with much to hang their hat on over the past month.
