WCWAs Is A World Team Trials Qualifier

The first national championships of the collegiate wrestling season are this weekend in Oklahoma City. However, the 15th Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association tournament is important for another reason.

Much like how NCAA Division I champions qualify for World Team Trials on the men's freestyle side, the WCWA champs also qualify for the women's freestyle trials by winning the two-day tournament, which gets underway Friday.

The WCWA already operates under freestyle and generally builds its season around the USA Wrestling schedule. Last year, there were two WCWA champs who went on to make the world team, Haley Augello at 53kg and Mallory Velte at 63kg.

There are 10 weights for WCWA competitions, but they differ from international weights and are also measured in pounds: 101, 109, 116, 123, 130, 136, 143, 155, 170, and 191.

Below are complete WTT qualifying procedures, and the most recent WCWA rankings can be found here.

Wrestling starts at 10 AM Central time on Friday. Brackets will be FloArena.
