Team Score Update After Session 1
Team Score Update After Session 1
Updating the Top-10 team score after the first session of the 2018 NCAA tournament in Cleveland.
We knew it would be an excellent team race at the 2018 NCAA tournament, and we have been doing our best to keep you as up-to-date as possible on it throughout the first session.
Ohio State qualified all 10 guys, got all 10 guys seeded, and won all 10 of their first round matches. But that was not enough to hold off Iowa, who racked 10.5 bonus points to secure the first session lead. Penn State scored no points at the first three weights, and then hit bonus from their final seven wrestlers to hold third place.
In the last match of the session, Michigan leapfrogged NC State to grab the final team trophy spot, as Adam Coon picked up a major to make it six bonus points for the Wolverines. They have seven remaining alive on the championship side, one fewer than the Wolfpack. Of note, Pete Renda had a team point deducted after his match.
Below is a breakdown of the Top-10 teams, how many they have alive and how many bonus they scored. Please note some of these teams had pigtails.
