Best Women's Performances Of U.S. Open
While the women’s bracket at the US Open featured some technically sound domination and great performances
If you’re searching for dominance, look no further than the senior women's freestyle brackets at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas. While the tournament was a bit of a “welcome home” party in some weight classes, it featured a number of technically sound performances and great matchups, as well.
Before we get to the big-time performers, let’s give props to Whitney Conder and Victoria Anthony, who battled in the 50kg finals. Anthony kept firing hard and Conder was ready for it.
Rewatch the Conder vs. Anthony battle in the 50kg finals:
Julia Salata
If you sneezed, then you missed her first match at 65kg. She shot out of a canon with a 21-second 10-0 technical fall in the first round. Her 3-1 semifinal was the only match in which she gave up a point because she pitched a shutout in the finals to claim the title and a berth at Final X in Lehigh, PA, on June 23. Oh yeah, and she did it all with a torn bicep. No big deal (sarcasm).
Tamyra Stock
How do you score on Tamrya Stock? Trick question. You don’t. With a point total of 32 in her favor, Stock mowed down the field, leaving a goose egg on her opponents’ side of the scoreboard on the way to the title at 68kg. She also didn't get out of the first period until the finals.
Sarah Hildebrandt
It was the one-year anniversary of Hildebrandt's disappointing finish at the 2017 U.S. Open and she made up for it tremendously. Last year in the finals she was badly injured, but this year she rewrote the story with a dominant performance in which she gave up one point en route to the 53kg title.
Kayla Miracle
Not one offensive point was given up as she stormed through the bracket to claim the 62kg title. The one point she gave up was on passivity against Jenna Burkert.
Adeline Gray
She said it was tough to come back after taking a year off, but once she got rolling there was no stopping the world champ. Gray had her best performance in the 76kg finals when she defeated Leilani Camargo-Naone 11-0 to clinch a berth at Final X.
