How will Edinboro look under a new regime?
The powerful Coach Tim Flynn left Edinboro after last season and is now leading the program at West Virginia, who you’ll also be able to get a look at on Sunday at the Collegiate classic. Head Coach Matt Hill and the new look Fighting Scots will be in action on Saturday and will look to continue the good start they had at the Michigan State Open. The Scots had 11 placers at the Michigan State Open, including 2 champs in the Freshman and Sophomore division, Peter Pappas at 157 and Jacob Oliver at 174. Edinboro will be going up against The Citadel first and then will have a tough test against Wyoming, lets see how the Fighting Scots do against a top team like the Cowboys.
How much money can you make this weekend?
Thanks to BetDSI we have betting odds for college wrestling and thanks to the wild Willie Saylor, we have week 2’s feature betting odds all in one place right here. Some interesting bets to take a look at are if Nebraska is going to be able to cover the giant 29.5 point spread over Utah Valley, and can the aforementioned Edinboro get the upset against Wyoming, despite being 3.5 point dogs. My money is on is on Utah Valley being able to keep it just close enough and I got Edinboro with the upset. Don’t come looking for me though if you lose your money, and remember life is too short to bet the under.
How Will LIU Post perform as a Division 1 team?
Over the off season news broke that Division 1 wrestling will be receiving a new program in the near future. LIU Post will be combining two of there campuses to elevate several of their programs from Division 2 to Division 1. The change won’t be in effect until next season but you’ll be able to get a sneak peek at what Head Coach Joe Patrovich will be leading his team into next year when they face off with a Division 1 opponent, Virginia. Keep an eye out for LIU Post to surprise you at a few weights especially Justin Vines at 133. The NY State Champion and NHSCA national champion was showing out for Team Kong in Virginia Beach, including a very close match with Jordan Decatur.
How Good is Mikey Labriola?
Mikey Labriola was a pure hammer in High School and proved he was one of the best wrestlers in the country with his undefeated PA State title and big win at Who’s Number One. Labriola is fresh off of his very impressive redshirt season in which he went 17-2, his only two losses coming to Purdue’s Dylan Lydy and had a bunch of big wins including wins over All-Americans David Kocer and Jacobe Smith. Labriola dominated his way through Daktronics and is looking to stay dominant when Nebraska faces off with Utah Valley, Drexel, and Virginia. His match with Kimball Bastian of UVU should be a good one to start off the day.
