U23 Quarterfinals start Sunday, June 2, 9:30 AM
So let's all have a good time and run down the wackiest round of 16 matches from the U23 freestyle tournament.
Shawn Orem, Husky Elite Wrestling Club vs Zach Price, Jackrabbit Wrestling Club
Price blew this one wide open by scoring 11 unanswered points to secure the tech.
Louie Hayes, Cavalier Wrestling Club vs Brandon Loperfido, Mat-Town USA
UVA's Louie Hayes was down 7-2 before he took command of this match and won via fall of the technical variety.
Jose Rodriguez, Cleveland Falcon Wrestling vs Domonick Demas, Oklahoma
Folks, we don't deserve Dom Demas.
Mike Van Brill, NJRTC vs Colston Diblasi, George Mason
Ignore the stoppages (or take advabtage of that 10 second fast forward button) and enjoy the bonkers upper body moves both wrestlers hit with reckless abandon. It was a kitchen sink fest.
Justin Thomas, Oklahoma vs Ebed Jarrell, PRTC
It's tough not to empathize with see someone who gets pinned while holding the lead but on the other hand it's also pretty thrilling too.
Christian Brunner, Boilermaker RTC vs Benjamin Smith, Cleveland State University
Two 92 kilogrammers score 27 points combined and the guy with the only two four-point throws loses? That's like a motorcycle with no motor! Okay!
Kobe Woods, Wartburg vs Jonathan Aiello, Cavalier Wrestling Club
Two more big fellas going ham. Never a bad thing!
Benyamin Kamali, Cavalier Wrestling Club vs Luke Werner, Mat-Town USA
Ben Kamali is PUMPED after this win. A joy to behold.
Wow, insanely wild matches. Now how about we get stoked for the raddest quarterfinals matches we should all watch together on Sunday? Sure let's do it.
The Raddest U23 Freestyle Quarterfinal Matchups
Who doesn't want to see these two studs battle it out? No one who like wrestling, that's who.
We told you the 65 KG quarters was going to rock. Four NCAA All-Americans, a cadet & junior world teamers, all sorts of crazy goodness. You can't go wrong with any one of these matches but I suggest using the quad-view function on your web browser for maximum enjoyment.
Two Cavaliers go up against two All-Americans. Stupendous.
Four NCAA appearances between these two dudes, and they both have another year of eligibility remaining.
No offense to Max Dean or his opponent but the other three quarterfinal bouts are all much closer to toss ups. They could go either way is what we're saying.
A couple of Scarlet Knights, the defending U23 world teamer, and a promising you Sooner.
There are actually three other rad matches at this weight class but we're trying to narrow things down a bit so we're going to say that this one is every so slightly more rad than the others. Laird and Boykin are both NCAA qualifiers with contrasting styles. Boykin is more, stout, shall we say, than Laird.
Take advantage of every opportunity you can to watch Anthony Cassioppi and Daniel Kervliet. They are part of a new wave of heavyweight talent that will help turn the USA into a powerhouse at this weight class internationally.
Okay, that's all we got for now. And after tomorrow's rad quarterfinal matches? That's right, rad semifinals, finals, and placement bouts!
