Week 8 of NCAA wrestling saw many top competitors head to Fort Worth for Senior Nationals and a lot of of teams had minimal weeks due to preparation for Midlands and The Southern Scuffle. As a result, we had fewer upsets than normal, but we did have a handful of results that will impact the upcoming Midlands and Southern Scuffle tournaments.

First, check out the 5 biggest upsets that could impact Midlands and the Scuffle, then read the complete list of week 8 upsets. If you saw an upset we missed, please let me know at david.bray@flosports.tv. Now, on to the top 4 upsets from week 8.
1) 157 - #8 Quincy Monday over #7 Jesse Dellavecchia
While this upset was minor numerically, it signals that Princeton's Quincy Monday is putting together a season that has included consistent wins over ranked opponents. With this consistency, Monday has set a new bar for himself.
This makes things interesting as he heads into a tough Midlands field that includes #1 Ryan Deakin, #5 Kendall Coleman, and #8 Kaleb Young. Monday had a win over Young earlier this year and a pair of wins over #11 Josh Humphreys. These, combined with this most recent upset over Dellavecchia, suggest that Monday will make an impact on the field in Evanston.
2) 157 - #23 Justin Ruffin over #4 Larry Early
SIUE's Justin Ruffin had the biggest numerical upset of the week in his defeat of #4 Larry Early of Old Dominion. Ruffin enters the same 157-pound Midlands bracket described above.
While Ruffin would not normally be considered a major player in this 157 field, his win over Early raises his profile as a guy to watch at this Midlands weight. Increased productivity for Ruffin is a great thing for SIUE. Keep your eyes on him at Midlands and throughout the year.
3) 125 - Fabian Gutierrez over #12 Joey Prata
Chattanooga's Fabian Gutierrez has been in the rankings before but hasn't registered the consistent results to maintain a spot in the top 25. Last week he beat Virginia Tech's #12 Joey Prata 9-4.
The timing of Gutierrez's upset is good as his Chattanooga Mocs will host the Southern Scuffle next Wednesday and Thursday. Circle Gutierrez on your bracket next week. He's dangerous.
4) Devan Turner over #14 Ridge Lovett
Oregon State's Devan Turner has looked bright in spots at 133 for Oregon State, but his 6-2 win over Nebraska's #14 Ridge Lovett is his best of the year.
Turner and Oregon State will head to the Southern Scuffle next week where he will have an opportunity to find out where he stacks up against a number of ranked opponents. Turner was an NCAA Qualifier last season and looks to improve on that performance.
