The Doc Buchanan Invitational continues to deliver one of the best products of high school wrestling in the country year after year. They bring in some of the best talent from around the nation. When all that talent converges on one spot you’re bound to see some crazy results. Here are the best of the upsets from Day 2 at Doc B:

106: Semifinal Raymond Lopez, Buchanan dec Beau Mantanona, Palm Desert 15-14

Upset? Depends on who you ask. Lopez trailed by as many as five in the third period. A takedown right into a turn earned Lopez the crazy 15-14 decision

182: Final #6 Isaiah Salazar, Windsor dec #5 Nathan Haas, St. John Bosco 9-8tb

When #6 beats #5 it’s technically an upset. That’s not why this match is in the top upsets article. You will be the one that is upset if you don’t watch this bout. It has everything: high scoring, top technique, controversy, and bonus wrestling that lasted into tiebreaker one

160: Final #4 Cael Valencia, St. John Bosco dec. #2 Paddy Gallagher, St. Edward 9-5

Again, technically an upset. However, the real shocker was the dominance of Valencia. He seemed to make the right move every single time. He converted on his chances and was able to ward off the best Gallagher had to throw at him.

152: Semifinal Matthew Singleton, Woodward Academy dec #1 Sonny Santiago, St. John Bosco 9-2

Singleton has bounced around between 152lbs and 160lbs this season after earning a second-place finish U16 145lbs this summer. He was on the radar to play spoiler this weekend as most people anticipated a #1 vs #2 matchup in the finals between Sonny Santiago and Chase Saldate, and he delivered. Singleton earned a takedown in each of the first two periods and really blew the match open with a set of three nearfalls in the second period.
