Match Order
140 lbs: Vito Arujau vs Sammy Alvarez
137 lbs: Roman Bravo-Young vs Jack Mueller
149 lbs: Darrion Caldwell vs Luke Pletcher
200 lbs: David Taylor vs Myles Martin
79 kg: Kyle Dake vs Frank Chamizo
Let's dive into the details.
Vito Arujau vs Sammy Alvarez
Two young guns here. Both wrestlers have three years of college eligibility in front of them, and both of them already have one All-American finish to their name. Arujau finished in fourth place at the 2019 NCAA tournament before Olympic redshirting this past season. The NWCA named Alvarez a 2020 All-American after he earned the 10 seed at the NCAA Championships before they were canceled.
While Alvarez has not wrestled much freestyle in his career, Vito is a freestyle vet. The Long Island native earned silver medals at both the 2016 Cadet World Championships and the 2019 Junior World Championships, picking up some nice wins along the way. Vito will be the favorite on paper, but Alvarez is a young, hungry, and scrappy New Jerseyan.

Roman Bravo-Young vs Jack Mueller
Another battle of young DI All-Americans. Jack Mueller just finished his career at Virginia this past season. Including 2020, Mueller is a three-time All-American. In 2019 the Texas native defeated Sebastian Rivera and made the 125 lbs NCAA finals. Mueller is no slouch in freestyle either. The newly signed NYC RTC member won Fargo twice and made the 2018 U23 World Team.
Roman Bravo-Young is an Arizona native with an exciting style of wrestling. He’s used these sometimes unconventional techniques to become a 2019 and 2020 All-American. The Nittany Lion wrestler has some freestyle credentials to his name as well. He is a multiple-time Fargo champion, 2016 Cadet World Team member, 2019 Junior Pan Am gold medalist, and made both the UWW Junior Nationals and UWW Junior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament finals last year.
Our man Andrew Spey has Mueller as a 1.5 point favorite with the over-under at 12.5 points. This is definitely going to be a match you won’t want to miss.

Darrion Caldwell vs Luke Pletcher
An interesting matchup here between the 2009 149 lbs NCAA champion and the 2020 141 lbs NCAA No. 1 seed. In 2009 Darrion Caldwell famously upended Hodge Trophy winner Brent Metcalf for the NCAA title. However, since then he hasn’t done much on the wrestling mat, but has been competing in MMA where he won the Bellator Bantamweight World title in 2017. He’s coming out of wrestling retirement to try and headlock and/or spladle the younger Luke Pletcher.
Pennsylvania native Luke Pletcher made incredible jumps this past year and won the 141 lbs Big Ten title en route to becoming the No. 1 seed at the NCAA Championships before they were canceled. In freestyle, the newly signed Pittsburgh Wrestling Club member made the 2019 U23 World Team Trials finals where he took one match from Jaydin Eierman.
How will Calwell look after such a long break? Can he headlock Pletcher? Will Pletcher just steamroll the Wolf? So many questions with this one.

David Taylor vs Myles Martin
As you can gather from the video above, David Taylor is one of the best pound-for-pound wrestlers in the world. He was crowned the 86 kg World champion in 2018 and was denied the chance last year after suffering a knee injury. Taylor will be a heavy favorite despite Myles Martin being a four-time All-American, 2016 national champion, and currently ranked No. 8 in the world. Don’t count Myles Martin out, however. As Kyle Bratke pointed out, continued to improve and jump levels, especially when it comes to hand fighting, and he has shocked the world before. This happened when he defeated three-time NCAA champion Bo Nickal in the NCAA finals.
If you like hard hand fighting and points on the scoreboard, this match is for you.

Kyle Dake vs Frank Chamizo
Ah yes, the main event of the evening and the biggest match of the year. A battle between two two-time World champions with exciting styles. Often called an international treasure, Frank Chamizo is a Cuban-born Italian who loves the limelight. He won his first World medal all the way back in 2010 at 55 kg. Since then he’s added two World golds in 2015 and 2017 at 65 kg and 70 kg respectively, a silver in 2019 at 74 kg, and an Olympic bronze in 2016 at 65 kg. Now he’s bumping up once again, this time to 79 kg to take on the defending World champion.
Kyle Dake has won back-to-back World titles at 79 kg. In 2018 the Cornell grad didn’t even give up a point. That combined with the fact that he was the first wrestler to ever win four NCAA titles at four different weights, Dake has already cemented himself as a US wrestling legend.
It will be an interesting matchup of power and technique. Dake is known for his powerful chest wraps and throws while Chamizo has no problem letting anybody in the World in on his legs because of his confidence in his unorthodox but incredible defense.
