Thursday, September 17, 7:30 PM ET

The first whistle will blow at approximately 7:45 PM EST. Here's the view from ground zero.

Up first will be one of the brightest young stars in women's wrestling, Emily Shilson, taking on Charlotte Fowler, a 2018 U23 World Team member. Fowler took this match on just a couple days' notice.

Emily Shilson vs Charlotte Fowler

1st period: Fowler comes out controlling the tie-up trying to snap Shilson down, but Shilson shoots a righty low single (Mike Mal was warning of a lefty low single). Right of the restart whistle Shilson shoots that lefty low single Mike was talking about to take a 4-0 lead. Another single leg for Shilson and she finishes from quad pod with about 30 seconds left in the period, and transitions perfectly into a gut wrench. Shilson finishes the period on top and up 8-0.

2nd period: Emily Shilson wins the first match of the evening. It was another sweep single and finish from the quad pod that earned Shilson the final takedown to make it a 10-0 tech fall 30 seconds into the 2nd period.

Joe Colon vs Seth Gross

1st period: A lot of handfighting especially in the two-on-one for the first 30 seconds but no takedown. Colon gets warned for passive but then actually picks up a single shortly after. Just as Mark Bader is saying Colon has a deadly gut wrench, Colon hits said gut wrench. Gross scrambles out of the bottom position and into a front head where he eventually hits a head pinch for two, but Colon comes out on top to make the score 5-2. This time no gut wrench for Colon.

With about 35 seconds left Gross shoots a single, Colon defends and as he is looking to come behind and hits a nifty cheap exposure roll turn, but Gross also gets exposure and finishes on top. Colon will go into the 2nd up 7-5.

2nd period: Colon comes out firing in the second, but Gross hits an amazing belly whizzer to expose Colon, tying the match up, but Colon finishes on top to go up 8-7. Colon shoots a low shot but Gross is able to pick him up and expose him for four. Colon shoots and the two start scoring points from chest wrap and go behinds faster than I can type it's now 15-13 Colon. They restart Colon shoots, but Gross scores. It's 15-15 Colon leads on criteria.

Colon immediately shoots off of the whistle and picks up a takedown as he drives Gross out of bounds. It's 17-15 and there's still over 30 seconds left. This match is crazy and my fingers don't work fast enough. Colon takes a shot and he's going to pick up four more that will seal the deal. Holy cow, 21-15 Colon. 36 points on the board.

My blog does this match no justice, please go and watch. My reaction:

Rustam Ampar vs Jack Mueller

1st period: Rustam strikes first by jacking up underhooks, taking Mueller to the edge and pushing him out. Ampar does the same thing, but this time hits a throw by and finishes in quad pod on the edge. Ampar immediately off of the whistle snaps Mueller to the mat and finishes in quad pod once again. It's now 5-0 midway through the first. Another push out for Ampar, and I mean push out. Ampar is horsing Mueller around. He clearly has a strength advantage.

Ampar slows his pace down a little bit, but with 30 seconds to go he fires off a single leg. Mueller drapes over the top and now he has a leg, but Ampar evades. He'll take a 6-0 lead into the 2nd.

2nd period: Ampar comes out looking for another step out, but Mueller does a good job of circling in. Mueller gets in on a single leg, but Ampar hits a switch and picks up two on exposure as Mueller tries to leg pass. Mueller picks up two of his own by pressuring back in and exposing Ampar, but Ampar also picks up two at the end of the scramble. Ampar leads 10-2.

Now it's Mueller driving to Ampar to the edge and getting a step out. Ampar is clearly tired now. Mueller sweeps to a single right off the restart, but is only able to get one point on a step out. Ampar showing great balance and defense. Mueller on another single, this time he's able to finish making it 10-6 but only 8 seconds left.

Mueller finishes on top, but the final score will be 10-6 Ampar.

Alexandria Glaude vs Victorie Francis

1st period: 1 minute in and still no score. A lot of underhook digging from Francis and Glaude will go on the clock first. Glaude does not score, so Francis scores first. With 1 minute to go Francis picks up a step out to extend her lead to 2-0. And that's how the first period will end.

2nd period: 8 seconds into the 2nd Glaude shoots a single leg, but Francis picks up a Francis head pinches and kicks Glaude over for four. Now Francis transitions nicely into a lace plus one more to make it 10-0. BUT Glaude's corner throws the challenge brick. After the review, the officials confirm four points for Francis, so with the extra point at the end for lost challenge she wins 11-0.

Gable Steveson vs Trent Hillger

1st period: Gable strikes first just 10 seconds into the period by just bullying Hillger to the edge and picking up a takedown. Then right after the restart Gable picks up two more with a nice double. Another shot but Gable only able to push Hillger out this time. He now leads 5-0. Under hook knee pick for Gable and he now leads 9-0 just one minute into this. And another level change takedown for Gable. He wins 11-0 1:13 into the match. He just made that look so easy.

Yianni Diakomihalis vs Vladimir Khinchegashvili

1st period: Yianni shoots a righty single, but Khinche is able to stop Yianni's left hand. Khinche gets warned for passive first 45 seconds in. Low single for Yianni, but Khinche gets a head pinch and picks up two. Yianni finishes on top for one is VERY close to picking up two more a leg lace, but isn't quite able to get Kinche to go over. 2-1 Lado.

Another righty single for Yianni, but Vlad defends. Not too may attacks the last 45 seconds and that's how the period will end.

2nd period: Lado comes out firing the second with a single leg, but Yianni whizzers and defends. Khinche duck under to a body lock and scores two on the edge. On the restart Yianni disappears on a duck under/high c. After a scramble, Yianni will pick the takedown to make it 4-3 Lado. Single leg from Khinche and the two scramble and somehow end up with each guy on one leg and the other in the air. Official calls a stalemate. Single leg fromLado and after a lengthy scramble, the two end in another stalemate. 25 seconds left and Yianni shoots a single leg, but is only able to get a step out. Lado leading on criteria 4-4 with 5 seconds left. Yianni comes VERY close to picking up a step out as he shoots several shots, but Lado is just able to circle at the last second and avoid going out. The Georgian wins on criteria 4-4.
