It looks like Gable Steveson has done everything he set out to do in the confines of a wrestling mat. Well... almost everything. The Minnesota phenom has made it very clear that he is headed towards the sports/entertainment side of things after his last unscripted match was over, but I don’t think many people thought that it would be this soon.
I’m retiring wrestling after this year.. Where’s Anthony Cassar?? I need one more match before I go!

In a tweet last night Steveson not only announced that he was going to retire after this year, but that before he does he’d like one more match with former Penn State NCAA Champion Anthony Cassar.
When asked to clarify whether he was going to call it quits at the end of 2020 or if he was going to at least wait until after the Olympic Team Trials scheduled for April of 2021 Gable replied:
After the trials. One more match (with Cassar).
Gable Steveson has only two blemishes on his college record (51-2). Both came at the hands of Cassar in Gable’s freshman campaign. One loss was on Gable’s home mat at the 2019 Big Ten Championships where the two met in the finals. The second came just a couple of weeks later in the NCAA semifinals. Both matches came down to the wire with Cassar winning by one point on both occasions.
Cassar hasn’t been silent in this exchange either, tweeting back at Gable almost immediately.
Right here big boy! And I’d love to, but can’t have a rubber match when you’re 0-2...Maybe I’ll come see you in @WWE though ?

We reached out to Anthony for additional comments and were told:
I don’t think he truly wants to see me again, but either way I wish him the best of luck this year and maybe we’ll meet again down the line.
Cassar has been plagued with injury and hasn’t been on the mat much at all since winning that national title in 2019. His last performance ended in an injury default out of the 2019 Senior Nationals.
