It came down to tie-breaking criteria, but Team Illinois claimed their fourth-straight Junior Greco National Duals team title Thursday night. Due to the round-robin format of the Gold/Silver pool, Illinois’ win over Oklahoma in the final round created a three-way tie for first place. Oklahoma defeated Minnesota, 34-29, Minnesota defeated Illinois, 31-31, and lastly, Illinois defeated Oklahoma, 38-28.

The total number of classification points between the three teams’ duals was the first criteria to break the tie. Illinois was the leader with 69 points, Illinois 2nd with 62, and Minnesota 3rd with 60.

After starting at 195 and dropping three of the first five matches, Illinois really got rolling at 113. The champs won the next four straight and six of the next seven matches. Nationally ranked 120 pounder Kannon Webster helped the momentum shift when he rattled off 17-straight points after getting down by 7 to win 17-7 over a solid opponent in Eli Griffin.
