This year’s Who’s Number One 113 lbs match will be similar to when states have small class vs big class state champ matches. Braeden Davis won Junior 113 this year at Fargo while Leo Deluca won 16U. Now, they’ll square off September 18th in Dallas, TX, to find out who really is number one.

This year wasn’t Davis’ first year winning Fargo. In 2019 Davis proved himself at the lightest male weight class of 88 lbs with wins over #6 Alan Koehler and #16 Caleb Thoennes. Two years later and he’s put on some size and added some skill. A native of high school powerhouse Dundee in Michigan, Davis became just the second Mitten State native to ever win Fargo at both the 16U and Junior age levels. Ben Whitford was the first.

Even prior to his impressive Fargo performance, Davis was ranked #36 on the Class of 2023 Big Board. A big part of that was his 2020 Super 32 performance where he made the finals before falling to Vinny Kilkeary of Pennsylvania.

Leo Deluca might be two years Davis’ junior, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a formidable opponent. En route to his 16U Fargo title, he went through #3 Brock Mantanona, #17 Jax Forrest, and Jaxon Joy (who has been ranked as high as #10). And he dominated. Deluca outscored his competition 62-2, only failing not to tech fall Nick Treaster, who he beat 8-0.

Just now entering his freshman year at Blair Academy, Deluca might not be as well known on the national stage as Davis, but New Jersians are well aware. Deluca is coming and he’s going to be a force for the next four years. He could be the #1 ranked wrestler in the country before ever even wrestling a sanctioned match for his high school.
