Hawkeyes Add Transfer To Inaugural Recruiting Class
NAIA national finalist Nanea Estrella is joining the Hawkeyes, which is the first transfer in Clarissa Chun's recruiting class.
Iowa coach Clarissa Chun added her first transfer to an already impressive recruiting class. Nanea Estrella — a runner-up at the 2022 NAIA Championships at 130 pounds for Menlo College — is heading to Iowa City to compete for the Hawkeyes. She plans to finish the semester in Atherton, California, before making the move to the Midwest.
Estrella was a four-time Hawaii state champion at Lahainalula High School and a two-time Fargo finalist. She plans to redshirt next year and begin competition during the 2023-24 season, which gives her three years of eligibility.
"So much went into the decision to go to Iowa," Estrella said. "I was super excited to see that Clariss was the head coach, especially because she's from Hawaii and I'm from Hawaii, as well. I've looked up to her growing up. She's always been one of my biggest role models. Once Iowa started a program I was super excited about it."
