Michigan Adds #20 Walters To Big Time 2023 Recruiting Class
Michigan picked up a commitment from Hayden Walters, the #20 recruit in the class of 2023.
Michigan didn't receive their first commitment for the class of 2023 until February when #15 Caden Horwath, #22 Beau Mantanona, and #38 Dylan Gilcher all committed within days of one another. In the last two weeks, the Wolverines have received a commitment from #21 Sergio Lemley, and today, #20 Hayden Walters announced his decision to join the squad with the following tweet.
Proud to announce I will be continuing my athletic and academic career at the University of Michigan! Thank you to all of the coaches that have been involved in this process. Ready to get to work in Ann Arbor! @umichwrestling pic.twitter.com/fVpZIalcZN

At #20 in his class, Walters is an upper-weight prospect with tremendous potential. In the last year, he's been in the finals of Doc B and the Reno Tournament of Champions, finished third at Fargo and Super 32, and was fifth at Super 32. The three-time Oregon state champ's consistent success at national events suggests promise once he wears the Maize and Blue.

While Michigan tends to recruit well in-state and in their area, they have also created a strong recruiting presence in the Northwest. Walters' Doc B finals opponent Rylan Rogers of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, will be heading to Michigan this summer, and Walters' former Crescent Valley teammate Chance Lamer has already been in Ann Arbor for a season.
Walters gives Michigan a strong, well-rounded group of recruits for 2023, and they still have time to build on this class. The top remaining recruit in the class of 2023 is #7 Jim Mullen, the second-ranked heavyweight in the nation. Mullen has taken an official visit to Michigan.
