Gable Steveson Eyes Return To Minnesota
Will Gable Steveson return to the University of Minnesota for a final season? Steveson is exploring his options.
Gable Steveson took his shoes off and placed them in the center of the mat after he won the 285-pound title at the 2022 NCAA Championships in March. It symbolized his final competitive match and it marked a new chapter in his athletic career. Steveson signed a multi-year contract with World Wrestling Entertaining (WWE) that could make the 2020 Olympic gold medalist a global superstar. He even made an appearance with fellow Olympian Chad Gable (real name Chas Betts) at this year's Wrestlemania.
Now, all of that could be on hold for a year according to an article by Andy Greder published in the Twin Cities Pioneer Press. The 21-year-old is exploring a return to the Golden Gophers for the 2022-23 season, which means he would put his shoes back on and wrestle one more time.
Steveson alluded to a possible return during his post-NCAA tournament press conference — if the money is right. Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) has changed the landscape of college athletics and could incentivize the Apple Valley native to return to college wrestling.
