Match history
This is the first meeting between Shilson and Prussin.
What You Need To Know?
This is the match we’ve been waiting for: two multi-time national champions from different divisions putting it all on the line at the NWCA All-Star Classic.
Prussin has won NAIA Invitational titles at two different weights (109 and 116) and only has one loss during her collegiate career: a 10-0 setback to Felicity Taylor as a freshman during the 2019 Missouri Valley Open finals on November 17. Taylor transferred from McKendree to the University of Iowa after winning the US Open and reaching Final X this year.
Shilson (NCAA) enters with a laundry list of credentials, including an undefeated college career, four national collegiate championships (one WCWA and three NCWWC), and three age-level World titles (U17, U20, and U23).
What You Can Expect?
Prussin and Shilson are two of the most offensive-minded wrestlers in the country, which could make this the most entertaining match at the NCWA All-Star Classic. Remember, women’s collegiate wrestling uses freestyle rules so there’s always a chance this match could end early with a takedown and four turns.
Prussin wrestles as if her life depends on it, which includes lots of shots from space and a fast pace. She had a 19-14 shootout with 2021 national champion McKayla Campbell of Campbellsville at the 2022 NWCA National Duals where she led 8-0 before giving up a four-point throw on her own double-leg attempt. Prussin actually fell behind 14-11 before storming back for the win with a takedown and three gut wrenches in the final minute.
Shilson has a diverse set of takedown attacks highlighted by her headlock and her low single. Hitting the low single seems more likely against a high-caliber opponent like Prussin — especially since Shilson is shorter. The Maple Grove, Minnesota, native also has a huge gas tank, which could make a difference if the match goes to deep waters.
Don’t blink during this match. It should be fireworks from the beginning until the end.
Emily Shilson ends most of her matches early, like in the 2022 NCWWC finals
