Gilman is a former Iowa Hawkeye, and current Nittany Lion Wrestling Club member who represents the United States at 57 kg. Gilman has found success on the international stage with a bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and a gold medal at the 2021 UWW Senior World Championships in Olso, Norway.

Per a roster release from USA Wrestling, Thomas Gilman will be competing at 61 kg at the Dan Kolov this weekend. This is massive information as it will be the first time in Gilman’s career that he will be competing at 61 kg at an official UWW or USA Wrestling event. The 2022 United States Senior World Team is different from how it was originally composed in the aftermath of the Final X Series. Three athletes – all of whom having been recent Olympians – will no longer be suiting up in Belgrade. In addition, the acting head coach is not the same guy who was seen taking pictures alongside the Final X victors back in June, nor was he around when the majority of this year’s World Teamers first began wrestling on the Senior level altogether.
