Penn State Has A 197-Pound Dilemma

Anthony Cassar started at 197 for both of Penn State’s duals this weekend, but his loss to unranked Garrett Hoffman of Bucknell makes his hold on the varsity position somewhat tenuous. We are leaving Matt McCutcheon in at No. 4 for now, at least until after this weekend’s Keystone Classic, which may provide Penn State coach Cael Sanderson with some clarity on the subject.

Other shakeups in the rankings come from No. 11 Daniel Chad, who lost to No. 18 Christian Brunner, and No. 13 Steban Cervantes, who lost to unranked Jordan Atienza. They both drop as a result.

In unfortunate news, Bucknell senior No. 15 Tom Sleigh is reportedly out for the season due to injury and has been taken out of the rankings.

Additionally, Chris Weiler took out No. 20 Jeric Kasunic. The 197 weight class remains one of the most wild and wide-open divisions in the NCAA.
