Women’s college wrestling reached an intersection in 2020. Three separate national championships were scheduled with NCAA and NAIA programs hosting tournaments for the first time in the same year.

Women's college wrestling has seen significant changes since 2019 highlighted by the WCWA (Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association) Championships disbanding after the 2020 season, which was the end-of-of the year tournament for all women's college programs.
