California is coming off one of the most impressive Fargo performances in recent memory. In 2022, the Golden State finished third or better in five out of the six divisions, including team titles in both Junior Women’s freestyle and 16U Greco-Roman. California came away with 72 total All-American finishes.

The group from the Golden State is headed to Fargo with gold medals in mind after putting three in the finals in 2021 and crowning three champs in 2019. Team California is led by a number of standouts from some of the nation’s best high school programs like Buchanan, Clovis, Gilroy and more.

While many states across the country are in the building phase with women’s wrestling, California considers itself in a rebuilding stage.

Oklahoma fortified its future lineups last year by reeling in a pair of blue-chip prospects to slot into the middle and back end of its order.

Another season of California high school wrestling is in the books. We saw some surprises, some clear domination (looking at you Chase Saldate), and more. 

After an entire season of wrestling in the state of California, we've finally come to the CIF Wrestling Championships. Below is a weight-by-weight preview of the best and final tournament of the season with school competition, complete with Top-8 predictions of who will be the best in the state when it's all said and done.

RESULTS

As someone who has long been a proponent for more duals in the sport, a day-long tournament featuring some of the state's very best is a welcome addition to the season schedule.

The 2020 California State Duals will be in its inaugural year as Dr. Marcos Sanchez, Central Coast Section Assistant Commissioner, and staff, attempt to bring together under one roof the best programs in California to battle it out for a dual-meet team state championship. The event is set to take place on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Clovis North Educational Center.

The 2020 MidCals Tournament will be held on Friday, January 17, and Saturday, January 18. The MidCals Tournament will also be adding a girls division for the first time ever. The tournament usually attracts the best teams from the Central Coast in California and its surrounding areas. After a wild weekend at 5 Counties and Battle for the Belt, the fans in attendance should enjoy a weekend full of excitement. 

After a great weekend of wrestling at the Doc Buchanan tournament, this weekend’s action will resume in Southern California at the always-tough 5 Counties tournament. 

Wrestling duals come to Gilroy, California, as Daniel Cormier and staff welcomes some of the best teams throughout the country to the second annual Garlic City Rumble — aka California vs the nation's best on Tuesday, December 31. Teams in attendance include California teams such as Buchanan, Clovis, Clovis North, host Gilroy, and nationally ranked teams like Montini Catholic (Illinois), Lake Highland Prep (Florida), Delbarton (New Jersey), and Crescent Valley (Oregon).

Buchanan (CA), Gilroy (CA), Clovis (CA), Selma (CA), St. John Bosco (CA), Clovis North (CA), and Allen (TX) headline the 80 team field and what is becoming one of the toughest tournaments not only in California but on the West Coast.
