Mia Palumbo’s grandfather thought Jake Kadel was a flower delivery boy when he arrived at the family’s home in 2020. Palumbo’s brother, Rocco, died in a car in a car wreck on November 25 when the former Iowa Wesleyan coach showed up a few days later with a bouquet in hand.

Women’s wrestling is in a conundrum.

Samantha Miller and Allyssa Pirro sat high above the action on the first day of the recent men’s U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio. They eventually worked their way to the floor and volunteered for three straight days — making the two-hour round-trip drive from Cleveland.

Marcus Blaze is the 55kg rep for this year’s U17 world team, the #1 ranked wrestler in the country at 126 pounds, and the #4 ranked recruit in the class of 2025 out of Perrysburg, Ohio. We recently caught up with Blaze to get an inside perspective on his experience in the first few days of the recruiting process and to hear how he plans on approaching the coming months.

Chance Marsteller defeated Jordan Burroughs during a controversial three-match series at Final X for the 79-kilogram World team spot. Burroughs won the first match 3-3 and Marsteller won the subsequent two matches, 5-4 and 8-3.

It’s a good thing Iowa didn’t reach a Bowl Game during the 1992 football season. Heavyweight wrestler John Oostendorp might not have been ready by the time the NCAA Wrestling Championships rolled around in March.
