In 2003 Steve Mocco won an NCAA Championship for the Iowa Hawkeyes and in 2005 he won one at Oklahoma State University along with winning the Hodge Trophy.
Iowa and Oklahoma State are the two most storied programs in the history of NCAA Wrestling but the perceptions wrestling fans might have of them, especially back then, can be very contrasting. Iowa wrestlers liking to bang and Oklahoma State wrestlers shooting low singles from outside.
Those perceptions carried over into the way the two schools trained. People thought Iowa wrestled really hard and focused more on conditioning than technique. The opposite was thought about Oklahoma State, people thought they just worked on technique and being slick.
People were wrong. Steve Mocco puts an end to that myth in our latest FloFilms project MOCCO.
Steve Mocco on practices at Iowa vs Oklahoma State.
"One of the big things that surprised me about Oklahoma State was, all the people from Iowa were like, 'Oh you can't go there, they don't even really practice.'
Man, their practices were the same, it was the exact same. Fighting, when line-up guys were wrestling. Yelling. I was like this the exact same as Iowa I don't know why they say that."
