Mocco's Judo Background And Kidney Problems
Oct 21, 2016
A lot of people know that Steve Mocco has some kind of judo background, but no one really knows how it started. And certainly no one knew that Steve Mocco had kidney problems as a child and had to undergo dialysis.
Episode one of MOCCO takes us through Steve Mocco's childhood and all the way up until his decision to wrestle for the University of Iowa. Steve's life story is so dense that we didn't even get to mention his judo background or kidney problems that he dealt with as a youth.
Here, Mocco talks us through that early period of his life where he had kidney problems and was not allowed to do any physical sports. Instead he and his father would go to the gym and swim. After a while Steve saw kids coming out of judo classes wearing a gi and he wanted in. When his father felt like he was ready, he put Steve in judo and he continued to be involved with it until the time he left for Blair Academy.
